Today's verse · Patience as a nervous-system skill

1 Corinthians 13:4

“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.”

Through an attachment lens

Patience communicates, "You are not too much for me." Children who feel like a burden learn to shrink their needs; children who feel welcome learn to ask.

What the nervous system is doing

Patience is downstream of your own regulation. You can't will it — you build it with sleep, breath, and support for your own nervous system.

One thing to try today

Before the hard hour of your day, take three long exhales. Regulate yourself first; you can't give away what you don't have.

Grace for you

Impatience is not a character failure — it's usually a depleted body. Be as kind to yourself as you're trying to be to them.

You are doing the best you can with what today gave you. Keep showing up — Jesus covers the rest.
